Film Festival writing contest for essays, poetry includes cash prizes

FREMONT, Ohio – Think you’re a pretty good writer or poet?

Accept the writing challenge and enter the American Presidents Film & Literary Festival’s poetry and essay contests!

Winning entries in three age categories for the poetry and essay contests receive cash prizes.

Entries must be submitted as an email attachment to writingcontest@birchard.org or can be submitted online at americanpresidentsfilmfestival.org/submit-writing/.

The deadline for all entries is 11:59 p.m. Sept. 7.

The topic of the poetry contest is “A Conversation With Your Favorite President.” Poems can be about a single president, more than one president or the U.S. presidency in general. Entries cannot exceed 32 lines. Entries are limited to two per person.

Age groups and prizes for the essay and poetry categories are:

  • Age group: Youth ages 11 and under – First Prize $50, Second Prize $30, Third Prize $20
  • Age group: Youth ages 12-18 – First Prize $50, Second Prize $30, Third Prize $20
  • Age group: Adults – First Prize $50, Second Prize $30, Third Prize $20

In the essay contests, participants in the youth group (ages 11 and under) are to write about “A Conversation With My Favorite President.” The essay should address what the entrant would talk about, what questions he/she would ask of the president; what might the participant learn from the conversation. Maximum length is 200 words. Entries are limited to one per person.

The topic for the youth group (ages 12-18) AND the adult essay contests is “A Conversation With My Favorite President.” Essays should address what the entrant would talk about, what questions he/she would ask of the president; what might the participant learn from the conversation. Maximum length is 500 words. Entries are limited to one per person.

This is the second year for the festival and writing competition. Entries may be published on the film festival’s website and might also be included in the festival program.
