Tickets on sale for 2019 American Presidents Film & Literary Festival, schedule announced
FREMONT, Ohio – Tickets are on sale for the American Presidents Film & Literary Festival, taking place Thursday, Oct. 3 – Sunday, Oct. 6, at various locations in Fremont.
The second annual film and literary festival features a red carpet event with keynote speaker, original films, a cooking class with a former White House chef, lantern tours of Spiegel Grove with costumed living history presenters, an escape room geared toward teens, programs by authors and historians and more.
Tickets are available at americanpresidentsfilmfestival.org. Prices vary for each event, and an all-access pass – which includes films, the Red Carpet Event and more – and a two-day film pass are available.
The Red Carpet Event features the keynote talk by Adrian Miller, author of “The President’s Kitchen Cabinet: The Story of the African Americans Who Have Fed Our First Families, from the Washingtons to the Obamas. The event is from 5 to 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at The Strand Concert Theater in downtown Fremont.
Miller will share fascinating stories of the White House cooks, stewards, butlers and other staff and their relationships with the First Families. His book gives an inside look at life in the White House and the people who kept it running smoothly. Miller’s talk is sponsored by Birchard Public Library.
The event also will include a red carpet and photo ops with cutouts of some of the presidents, a wine-tasting and dinner. Tickets for the Red Carpet Event are $35 or are included with the $60 all-access pass.
Original films have a connection to the American presidency and the themes people, places, politics and power. They range from short films about the Civil War and the Robert F. Kennedy funeral train to a feature fictional film about a woman who steals President James Buchanan’s body with her friends and tries to ransom it for money. Although films touch in some way on the presidency or a presidential issue, they cover varying topics and are of different genres.
Tickets for each film screening are $7 or are included in the $28 two-day film pass or $60 all-access pass. The all-access pass includes the Red Carpet Event, all films and opening reception with hands-on artifact activity at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums.
Former White House Chef John Moeller will offer a cooking class in the kitchen of the historic Hayes Home as part of the festival. Moeller, who served as chef for three U.S. presidents, has offered programs in the past at Hayes Presidential. Tickets for the cooking class, offered at two times on Saturday, Oct. 5, are $125. The fee includes supplies.
Lantern tours with costumed living history presenters portraying women connected with the presidency are Friday, Oct. 4, at Hayes Presidential. The women’s theme was chosen because this year marks the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19thamendment that gave women the right to vote. Tickets are $10.
An escape room geared toward teens will take place at six different times on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums. Tickets are $10. Adults also are welcome to participate.
